"[...]Suddenly, the whooping of the boys all around turned to a clamorous urging to stop the fight. Level heads had appeared. The women, and perhaps some more responsible or older men, had heard the commotion and grouped around the original ring of onlookers. The young males - those who knew what was good for them - acted as if they had always been trying to break up the fight. Spurred on by this streak of self-preservation, nearby men grabbed at the two fighters and attempted to pull them apart.
They would not be separated, their battle akin to that of mad dogs.
Again, the other men tried, two sets of hands upon each bare-knuckle brawler. Again, they failed to disengage them from their combat.
Finally, with three men on each side and a slightly smaller shape squirming between them and pressing them apart from within, it was brought to an end.
It's unclear if the identity of the woman who jumped between them was the real reason it all came to a crashing halt, or if Vygo was blind, even to the fact that it was his sister breaking up the fight.
Indrys glared at him, but did not speak. How could her brother have done this? He was some alien being, to her. In her own mind, he was a monster, bloodied and half naked in the chilly mid-morning, while she was fully clothed, with not a hair out of place.
He could see it in her eyes, the distaste, the disgust, the shock. She looked at the other man, who was half destroyed, by her brother's hand alone. He saw her give him a sympathetic look and renew her glare at him.
His mind reeled, and he was ever-angrier at her. How could she take the side of this jerk?! He had only fought him because he had insulted her. He had been defending her honour, not his own. It didn't matter what the fight had been about, she should support her brother, regardless of anything else!
All this remained unsaid, his hateful look merely intensified as they stared at each other, incomprehension and disbelief hanging between them. A vicious cycle, they could each see the other's disapproval deepening, and their own hostility was fuelled ever further.
All around them, the clan was in an uproar, people asking what had happened, and various stories were being told in answer.
A hush fell as the elders appeared, the crowd parting around the two fighters, and Indrys.
"Who started it?"
Many fingers pointed toward Vygo, but many also pointed at the other male, more or less half and half. Vygo pointed at his foe, and the foe pointed back at Vygo.
"You two don't get a say!" the aged dragonwoman snapped, then looked around, appraising the rest of the consensus. She saw it was basically split down the middle.
There came an exasperated sigh from the elder, and she rephrased the question. "Which of them actually threw the first punch?"
All fingers - save for one misinformed boy - shifted toward Vygo.
The solitary clawed digit that pointed at the bloodied brown-scaled youngster quickly corrected itself when it saw how overwhelming the majority was.
"It's settled then. Vygo, you shall be exiled--" she paused dramatically, letting everyone momentarily believe he would actually be thrown out permanently. For those who immediately knew it wouldn't be forever, she left them guessing at how long his sentence would be. "--just before the evening meal, into the night and until the new dawn. You will not receive your share of the communal dinner, of course. You will learn to appreciate your clan-mates, and all that they provide."[..."]

This is part of a long story I got
to write for me some time ago. We planned to post it entirely along with several illustrations I made to accompany it, and additionally, we'd also sell an artpack with some exclusive illustrations. The idea was dropped for some personal reasons, but maybe in the future, after some editing and tweaking, well get the back to it! But for now you can see the illustrations (minus the exclusive ones, these are kept privately 
), and some snippets of the story!
